100 Mile Justice
The evening of October 4 was a great success! The Hounarable Justice Peter Coulson provided those in attendance with humourous insights into the local justice system. The food was delicious; the live auction very entertaining. Our sponsors, donors for the auction, all those who contributed and all who attended will be pleased to know that over $8 000 dollars was raised after expenses! This money will be added to our general fund to support the work of the Napanee District Community Foundation.

L&A 4-H Dairy Club Field Trip a Success
Thanks to the Napanee District Community Foundation, the Lennox and Addington 4-H Dairy Club was able to visit four dairy operations, a cheese factory and the Kawartha Ethanol plant in July 2011. This one day excursion to the Peterborough area was organized as a learning opportunity for the participants to visit innovative farm operations with good day to day management skills and financial planning. The participants learned a great deal and asked many questions as they could see themselves in similar operations in the near future. After visiting each farm, or agribusiness, the members discussed the operation and exchanged ideas. The Ethanol plant was an interesting stop whereby the participants learned about the quality of corn required and the process of ethanol production.
Several of the 4-H members referred to the trip, as a "definite highlight of their 4-H years" or "one of their best day in 4-H". Once again, the funds provided by NDCF were most appreciated by the 4-H Dairy club members and leaders. We could not have offered this once in a life time opportunity without the financial resources we received.

Hospice Lennox and Addington
Last year, with the support of NDCF, seventeen children in three elementary schools were supported by Hospice L&A through their Child Bereavement program. This school year, thanks to a $2 000 grant from NDCF, the eight week program has been expanded to include a fourth school. Comments from the elementary school children who participated in one of the programs had this to say:
-
Rainbows is helpful
-
I learned that it is alright to cry
-
If my friends asked about what Rainbows was, I would say that it's to let the emotions out of your body that won't come out and it is a relief
-
Talking about our loses made it feel better
-
Rainbows helped me feel better about losing my grandmother. She was very special to me.
-
I feel very happy my parents put me in Rainbows.
-
I learned that if someone dies in your family it is ok. You can remember all the fun times.
-
I learned not to blame yourself if your parents break up.
These comments are a testament to the success of the program.
The Navy League, Napanee, Lennox and Addington Branch
The $2 500 grant provided by the NDCF has resulted in the purchase of 10 top of the line GPS units. these units are used not only for instruction in navigation - an essential part of cadet training - but also for geo-cashing as a recreational activity. One initiative is to plot the grave sites of deceased veterans in and around the Napanee area. The information will then be sent to Veterans Affairs to add to their data bank.
